BYROMVILLE — Talk about taking charge of a game right off the bat, Fullington Academy’s Lady Trojans did just that Tuesday on their way to an 18-6 rout of fellow region member Covenant Christian of Macon.
With Abbe Jolly and Ashlyn Reed collecting two hits apiece and three of their teammates getting one, coach Billy Ruis’ squad combined those seven safeties with three walks and three errors for an almost-instant 11-0 edge.
To Covenant’s credit, though, it briefly made a game of it by scoring six times after two outs in the top of the second. A pair of singles and walks plus a double led to the half-dozen tallies all of which were earned.
Any hopes the Lady Rams had of making a comeback vanished, though, when Fullington put a five spot of its own on the scoreboard in the last of the second.
Six walks, several wild pitches and base hits by Reed and Joiner Ivey produced those tallies that made it 16-6 and all but insured that the Lady Trojans would extend their winning streak to nine games .
The home team picked up its final two runs in the last of the third as a single by Langston and a fielder’s choice that allowed Reed to reach led to those scores.
Reed wound up with three hits and Jolly finished with two to top the Lady Trojans’ 10-hit assault. The mound win went to Brittany Bailey who in retiring Covenant in order in the first, third and fourth innings held the visitors to four hits overall. She also walked three batters.
Fullington (9-3, 2-0) has a 4:30 contest on tap here today vs. Windsor.
