CORDELE — This past weekend’s results at Watermelon Capital Speedway show area drivers with high finishes.
Hometown driver Billy Nipper was the first to take the checkered flag in the pure stock field where Unadilla’s Justin Bridges ran second and Cordele’s Jeremy Merritt placed eighth. Joining Nipper and Bridges in the top five were Doerun’s Jordan Hembree, Leesburg’s Tony Knight and Americus’ Cody Hale.
In the min-stock feature won by Perry’s Mark Rowley, Arabi’s Banks Perdue placed second, Warwick’s Tom Atkinson came in seventh, Vienna’s Cliff Hines took eighth and Cordele’s Keith Weathersby wound up ninth.
Sylvester competitors Jake Roberts and Brian Taylor were third and fourth in that division where Perry’s Ted Rowley rounded out the top five.
Cordele drivers also took four of the top five places in the claimer class won by Scott Rainey. James Yawn was second, Justin Butterworth fourth and Lance Spurlin fifth. Two other local entries — Merritt and Wesley Burke — placed sixth and eighth. Leesburg’s Daniel Thompson held down third place in that division.
The top three in the bandolero ranks were, in order, Joey Padgett of Tallahassee and Marlee Graham and Chase Knight, both of Leesburg.
In the legends division, Fitzgerald’s Eric Simpson won and Concord’s Cindy Anderson was right behind him.
Perry’s David Woodard and Tifton’s Bud Wilson ran 1-2 in the super street class.
