CORDELE — For the second year in a row Watermelon Capital Speedway will host SpeedFest — a Friday-Sunday event featuring some of the best late model and super late model drivers in the United States as well as some big name NASCAR stars.
Sanctioned by the Champion Racing Association, the card will consist of a 200-lap ARCA/CRA Super Series feature and a 100-lap JEGS/CRA all-stars tour presented by Chevrolet Performance.
Both events will only count green flag laps — a change from previous seasons. There will be a halfway break at lap 100 for the longer battle.
Highlighting the list of early entries for the ARCA/CRA Super Series are NASCAR driver/Unadilla native David Ragan, 2011 champion Bubba Pollard, JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour 2012 Rookie of the Year Anderson Bowen and midwest tour competitor Travis Sauter of Wisconsin.
For the 100 lap JEGS/CRA all-stars tour, early entrants include 2011 Rookie of the Year Cody Coughlin of Ohio, Georgia natives Dalton Grindle, Mason Massey and Matthew Wragg and Florida competitor Kyle Bryant.
Second generation NASCAR stars who have already entered include Chase Elliott, the son of NASCAR driver Bill Elliott, John Hunter Nemechek, whose father is NASCAR driver John Nemechek, and Harrison Burton, son of NASCAR driver Jeff Burton.
SpeedFest weekend will kick off on Friday, Jan. 25th, with an optional practice day. Gates open at 1-0 a.m. with practice set from noon-6 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 26th, will consist of practice and qualifying for both divisions. Gates will open at 8:30 a.m. with practice beginning at noon and qualifying at 4:15 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 27th, will feature the running of SpeedFest 2013. Pit gates open at 8:30 a.m. and grandstand gates at 11 a.m. An on-track autograph session for both divisions and other special guests participating is set for 12:30 p.m. Driver introductions are at 1:30 and racing begins at 2 o’clock.
Wrapping up the weekend’s festivities will be a fireworks display at the conclusion of the racing competition.
