Dasher —
Both Crisp Academy teams came here Tuesday night anticipating one of their stiffer tests of the season. Only one of them actually saw that expectation materialize.
Whereas the Wildcats failed to pass their exam administered by Georgia Christian’s Generals who beat them 54-43, the Lady Wildcats had all the answers needed to ace the test posed by the Lady Generals, 57-14.
Those outcomes left the Crisp teams with overall report cards of 20-2, 5-0 (girls) and 6-10, 2-3 heading into Friday home games vs. Highland of Valdosta. A boys only game initially scheduled for Saturday at Sherwood has been canceled and won’t be played at all.
Lady Wildcats 57, GCS 14
In reaching the magic 20-win for a fourth straight season, coach Gina Mitchell’s girls turned to their basketball version of the automobile industry’s “Big Three” (Ford, Chrysler, General Motors).
Their trio of top performers included Madi Mitchell, Jay Jay Yawn and Kendall Wilson who continued their scoring surge of late by pumping in 22, 14 and 12 points, respectively.
That type production easily allowed Crisp to command quarter advantages of 18-6, 31-8 and 45-8 over a Lady Generals’ squad that in all fairness was without its top performer — 6’4” Lindsey Levings — due to illness.
“While Madi, Jay Jay and Kendall all had another big night, all 11 girls we played did well,” Gina Mitchell said. “I was very proud of the effort given by each of them.
“As a team, we came out pressing which led them (the Lady Generals) to quickly wilt. We also shot and rebounded well and only committed 11 turnovers.”

Generals 54, Wildcats 43
The Wildcats may not have been able to defeat one of the GISA’s top-ranked boys teams, but the effort they gave in defeat had coach Jodie Hays smiling afterwards.
“Our defense continued to keep us in games like that; we shot free throws better than we have all year (making 10 of 14 attempts), and we hit the boards pretty good,” Hays said.
“This was the third straight game in which we’ve gone out there and put everything we had out there on the floor while giving enough effort not only to compete but also to win which we had a chance to do.
“I thought the turning point came in the third quarter when we briefly went ahead only to see them (the Generals) seemingly get the benefit of the calls and non-calls that resulted in us having to sit three starters after they picked up fourth fouls.
“Despite that being the case, our guys never lost their fight to compete especially inside where Jordan (Howard) and Hunter (Chambers) continue to come up big for us.” Chambers finished with 15 points and Howard with 11.
