In the same week that one former Wilcox High football player has given a commitment to play for Auburn’s Tigers this coming season, two other Patriots also are in the news.
Alphonzo Dennard, who played collegiately at Nebraska and later was chosen by New England in the NFL draft likely will play in this Sunday’s AFC championship game in Foxboro, Mass.
He, however, was one of only two players missing from practice yesterday in the Patriots’ preparation for tthat contest against the Ravens.
Dennard's absence was not injury-related, according to the Patriots' practice report. Also missing was tight end Rob Gronkowski, who had surgery on his broken forearm on Monday.
In other developments, current Wilcox senior Jonathan Howard is only waiting until next month’s National Signing Day to officially cast his lot with North Carolina.
He gave his verbal commitment to the Tar Heels several weeks ago.
