Rochelle —
Wilcox County Patriots coached by George Kennedy improved to a 5-0 record Friday night with a win at home over Charlton County 74-46.
In Wednesday games here, the Patriots came away 78-68 point winners while the Lady Pats took it on the chin 40-20. The teams were playing Stewart County.
Against Charlton, Kennedy said his team played well the entire game and had a good balanced attack. “Since we got a late start with football season being extended, we are now beginning to play as a team and execute well.”
The Pats jumped out ahead 50-29 in the first half and never looked back. Everyone who played scored, and Johnny Dwight and Jonathan Howard had especially good nights on the boards, according to the coach.
Howard also led the scoring with 14 points. Calvin Rawls added 11 and Larry Munford, Antwan Benjamin and Dwight had 10 each. Quinn Tisdol scored 8 points; AJ Benjamin, 5 and Mikail Grace, 4.
In the Stewart game, Kennedy said his Patriots had a great third quarter, outscoring Stewart 27-14 in that period, and that was the difference in the game.
Four players scored in double digits as the Patriots were 18 of 25 at the free throw line.
Howard again led the offense with 29 points. Grace tossed in 19; Antwan Benjamin added 12 and Dwight, 10.
In the female fray with Stewart, no Lady Patriot reached double digits as the shots just wouldn’t fall, according to Coach Santita Coon. “It was an up and down game, but our offense couldn’t get anything going because of turnovers.
“We would force turnovers on defense, then turn around and lose the ball on offense.” Coon also credited her players with good rebounding.
Miracle Jones led the scoring with 6 points. Erika Jackson had 5.
No report on the Friday girls’ game was available.
