It was on Feb. 8, 1910 that the Boy Scouts of America was formally organized. That highly esteemed organization turns 100 Monday.
Boy Scouts have been active in the Cordele area at least since 1913, and many young boys in our area still benefit from their experiences in Cub and Boy Scouts.
We want to extend our congratulations to everyone, both youth and adult, who has been involved in scouting through the years.
There are so many other things that compete for a young boy’s time today, so it’s especially gratifying to see youngsters who still enjoy the learning experiences they are exposed to in Scouts.
Locally, Cub Scouts participated in the Pinewood Soapbox Derby Saturday. It was an exciting time for them as they competed for an opportunity to represent their den at the district level.
Today, Scouts all over the state will be honored in church services. Cordele’s Pack 270 Cub Scouts and Troop 270 Boy Scouts will be dressed in their uniforms.
On the actual anniversary date, Monday, local scouts will participate in their annual Blue and Gold Banquet.
Later in the month, the Cordele Dispatch will be publishing a Boy Scout Centennial edition.
This publication will be packed with photos and stories of scouting that you have submitted.
