Family enjoys train excursion

My family and I took the SAM Shortline train excursion tour on Saturday, July 21, and I am writing to let you know how very pleased we all are to have experienced such a grand day.

The ticket agents, conductors, and engineers did a fantastic job! The volunteers were some of the best we have ever encountered.

Our lunch stop in Americus at the Windsor Hotel was fabulous! Everyone was so nice.

The highlight of the trip was seeing former President Jimmy Carter at our stop in Archery. We could tell all of the ones in the “Hawkins” car who got a chance to shake hands with the President. The hands were hanging in mid-air! The yo-yo man did a great job!

Accompanying me on the trip were my husband, Enoch and our son Thomas of Washington, GA, Eva Mae Durham and Laura Ann Durham of Abbeville, William Durham of Cordele, Valerie Durham of Albany and Sandra Durham and Thez of Jonesboro.

Victim thanks officers
(A story about a robbery at gunpoint ran in Thursday’s Cordele Dispatch. As is the paper’s policy, the victim was not identified. He submitted a letter of thanks, but asked that he still not be identified.
We are honoring his request because of the circumstances. Sheriff Donnie Haralson and other officers know who he is).
