Cordele —
Vivian Breed, parent coordinator, and Nikki Harris, academic coach, conducted a parent workshop on math at A.S. Clark Tuesday, Jan. 15.
Mrs. Harris discussed the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards for grades 3, 4, and 5, and informed parents about the Symphony Math computer program which focuses on math strategies and skills for students.
Mrs. Breed reported on the number of students in each grade completing Symphony Math. She said a celebration for these students will be scheduled for the end of January.
“The Roadmap to Math,” an article on math, was given to parents. This article cites activities that students are working on at each grade level. It records the progression of math skills from each grade.
Also included in the article are examples of strategies to help at home with the benchmark tests.
Mrs. Harris shared promotion criteria for each grade, and parents were reminded about the Infinite Campus Portal where they can check on students’ progress, their grades, and receive emails from teachers.
Parents also received a list of helpful math websites and were given an opportunity to ask questions. At the end of the workshop, parents were treated to lunch.
Clark students will be taking the CRCT during the week of April 15-19.
