Local man charged with assault

Cordele — Assault charges have been filed against Michael Eugene Underwood for hitting his wife  in the face. 

Sheriff’s Deputy Angelo Cobb was called to the Underwood residence because of a physical altercation between the offender and his wife.  The victim said her husband of nineteen years became agitated and began hitting her in the face and head. 

The victim said she was able to get away from her husband and call 911.  Cobb observed minor injuries to the victim’s face, but he said she refused medical attention.

The offender admitted to striking his wife in the face during an argument and that the victim pushed him away.  During the altercation a witness and a juvenile were present and observed the physical altercation. 

Cobb placed the Underwood of a Denmar Rd. address with assault, battery, family violence and cruelty to children 3rd degree.

Other arrests by the sheriff’s office during the past week include:

• Michael Jackson Poole, 32,  414 Penia Rd., Cordele for tampering with property of a utility company/theft of service and theft by taking.

• Kimberly Estelle Jones, 21, 126 Dove Street, Cordele, for disorderly conduct.

• John Benigno Romero, 28, 2006 Karl Drive, Apt, Warner Robins for flight/escape to avoid prosecution, speeding, no insurance and no tag.

• Dequante’ Jackson, 17, 821 Pateville Rd, Cordele; Herman Shrelle, 17, 2012 McCleod Circle., Cordele, and Brittany Risby, 17, 504 Oak Ave. W., Cordele, for disrupting a public school.

• David Denham, 22, of 387 Penia Road, Cordele, for possession of less than oz. of marijuana.

• Eric Lee Brown, 35, of 4060 U.S. Hwy. 82, Sylvester, for theft by taking.

•Joseph Raymond Mcshea, 45, 108 Evergreen Street, Cordele for battery, family violence and false imprisonment.

• Robert Cross, 36, 1507 Wrights Chapel Road, Sumner, for flight/escape to avoid prosecution.
