Teen killed at bus stop

Cordele — Sixteen year old Precious Breanna Burns of a Hwy. 41 N. address in Cordele lost her life Tuesday morning when she walked into the path of a northbound vehicle on Hwy. 41, according to Sgt. Garrett Fiveash with the Georgia State Patrol, Post 30 in Cordele.

Fiveash said Ms. Burns and a younger brother were crossing the highway to reach a bus stop about 6:30 a.m. The brother crossed first, and when she started across, the driver of the vehicle said he did not see her. He estimated his speed at 55 mph which is the limit in that area, and Fiveash said the reconstruction team does not think speed was a factor in the incident.

Ms. Burns was wearing a black jacket and jeans, and it was still black dark, according to Fiveash. He does not anticipate that any charges will be leveled against the driver of the vehicle.
