Cordele —
The Concerned Citizens That Care recently joined together with supporters to help provide food for needy families at Thanksgiving. Through the combined efforts of the organization, donors and volunteers the group was able to distribute 102 food boxes the day before Thanksgiving.
Boxes consisted of; A whole turkey, rice, flour, corn muffin mix, paper towels, Corn Flakes, grits, macaroni and cheese, and soda. There were a variety of canned goods such as green beans, corn, soups, sweet peas, greens, and apple sauce as well as a number of other miscellaneous items.
“We are so thankful to each and every one who donated to this worthy cause,” said President Johnny Dennis. “We were fortunate enough to provide 102 families with enough food to last up to three days. In honor of our 10th year doing this outreach we wanted to feed 100 families and we did that.”
The Concerned Citizens That Care wanted to thank WSST-TV staff and J.W. Williams Funeral Home, as well as the church families who came together and collected items in their churches. They also thank all the volunteers who donated their time to come and assist in preparing the boxes and those individuals throughout the community that contributed.
Dennis also thanked Adrae Ramsey, a professional football player with the Carolina Panthers who flew from Charlotte North Carolina to show his support for the cause.
A non profit organization the Concerned Citizens That Care is a group of citizens from the community which began in 2002, with just a few members, to help feed the needy in the area. Founded by Dennis and his wife Barbara the ogranization has grown to 12 in membership the organization feeds senior citizens, disabled persons, families referred by the Department of Family and Children Services, the Housing Authority Complex, homebound patients, the mental health division, and other individuals throughout the community that have a need.
“The families are selected through one of these organizations,” said Dennis. “There are many families right here in Cordele that are in need and we plan to continue to feed them as long as we can. Our motto is and always will be; God blesses us so that we can bless others and it is more blessed to give than to receive.”
