Louisiana man pleads not guilty in crash that killed Georgia family
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A 30-year-old Baton Rouge man has pleaded not guilty to multiple vehicular homicide charges stemming from a fiery Interstate 10 crash that killed five members of a Georgia family in October.
State District Judge Trudy White appointed the public defender's office on Monday to represent Dwayne Leggett.
State troopers have said Leggett's blood-alcohol content was 0.18 percent after the crash. In Louisiana, a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent or higher is considered presumptive evidence of intoxication.
Two-year-old Alondra Brionca died at the scene. Fifty-four-year-old Maria Barrillos, her daughters, 27-year-old Sonia Gomez Brionca and 35-year-old Jacqueline Gomez and son, 22-year-old Rito Gomez, died days later from their injuries.
The family was from Ashburn, Ga.
