CORDELE — A routine “knock and talk” procedure conducted Saturday afternoon by a Cordele Police Department officer led to the arrest of a man being sought on four previous warrants and the issuance of an additional citation as well.
PFC Clinton Latham said he was performing routine duty in the 300 block of 13th Ave. W. when he saw in the hallway of a residence several subjects who appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
After asking for and receiving consent to enter the dwelling, Latham requested identification from a subject who responded he didn’t have any and then gave him a fictitious name and date of birth.
While waiting for that information to be checked at police headquarters, Latham said a relative of the subject arrived and identified the man in question as Jacarro Odom, 28, of 1005-A Seven Spring Drive.
When that name was checked, it was learned that Odom was already wanted for battery (family violence), criminal trespass, hindering an emergency telephone call and third degree cruelty to children. An additional charge of providing false information to a law enforcement officer was then made.
In other weekend activity, officers:
— Charged Sherry Rountree, 34, of 1257 Tremont Rd., with violation of the Georgia Compulsory School Attendance law.
Col. Lewis Green issued the citation to Sherry Rountree, 34, of 1257 Tremont Rd., after being informed by local school officials her son had thus far failed to attend school a total of 68 days.
— Cited Morris Battle, 56, of 202 Joe Wright Dr. S., with terroristic threats and acts.
Officer Chris Forsythe made the charge Friday morning at Jake’s Place located at 206 11th St. S.
— Received three theft complaints.
An employee of Friendly Entertainment Inc. told Sgt. Robert Montgomery on Friday that someone had entered that location after forcing open the front door and then removed a window air conditioner.
An employee of Watson’s Exxon/Chevron told Sgt. Charles Hill a black male pumped $57.02 worth of fuel into a dark grey or black SUV, came to the checkout counter and said he had forgotten his identification and needed to return to his vehicle to look for it.
He instead drove away north on I-75 while pulling a mid-size sedan on a dolly wheel trailer. Area authorities looked for but could not locate the subject.
A resident of the 1500 block of Joe Wright Dr. told Officer Chris Forsythe someone stole her black and white bulldog puppy valued at $100.
A similar complaint was made just before 9 a.m. Sunday by a resident of the 500 block of 21st Ave. W. Sgt. Robert Montgomery said someone cut the collar from a chain that had been attached to the complainant’s brown pit bulldog.
— Made a pair of disorderly conduct arrests.
PFC Clinton Latham cited Aubrey Deontae Putman, 27, of 1707 Oconee Circle, after being called to Holsey Cobb Village shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday to stand by at his girlfriend’s residence while he gathered his belongings.
When Putman continued to curse loudly in the presence of small children and ignore the officer’s instructions to stop doing so he was taken into custody.
Lt. Louis New cited Grayling Dennard Coley, 50, of 714-B 13th St. S., after being called to investigate a disturbance at his home shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday.
In that same case, a charge of battery was made against Bridgett Tina Wilson, 35, after she admitted to cutting Coley on the arm during the dispute they were having.
— Took Malcolm Jeffery, 18, of 410 Eighth Ave. W., into custody on a theft by shoplifting charge after being told he had been caught attempting to steal items from Wal-Mart.
A store loss prevention officer told Forsythe he had seen Jeffrey conceal a set of Pioneer speakers valued at $38. Jeffrey allegedly confessed to that offense and also admitted talking a $9.88 golf glove found in his pocket.
— Said a concentrated patrol they performed Saturday between 5 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday in the 11th St. S. area led to 15 citations being issued.
Of that number, 12 involved traffic violations, two were for possession of alcohol by persons under age 21 and another for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
A similar operation conducted Sunday afternoon in the Sunset Homes area led to seven citations for traffic violations and one each for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and misdemeanor obstruction of an officer.
— Took Roosevelt “Stoop” Brown, 49, of 1006 15th St. S., into custody just before 9 p.m. Saturday after learning while investigating a disturbance complaint filed from the 300 block of 17th Ave. W. that he was being sought on a warrant issued by the local sheriff’s department.
— Arrested Jamarion Marque Dixon, 20, of 412-C 23rd Ave. W., for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and excessive radio volume. Capt. Tommy Jackson issued the citations just before 10 p.m. Saturday while patrolling the Holsey Cobb Village area.
— Issued a criminal damage to property citation to Dellard Adkins, 18, of 114 Easom Rd., after he allegedly went onto the Suwanee Hotel parking lot just before 2 a.m. Sunday and let the air out of two tires on a truck belonging to a tenant there.
— Apprehended Dennis Armstrong, 34, of 255 Drayton Lane, after a brief foot chase that came when he took off running after being pulled over in a traffic stop made Sunday evening in the 400 block of 22nd Ave. W.
Cpl. Kristan Herrick said he caught Armstrong about a block away and charged him with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, safety restraint violation and obstruction of a law enforcement officer in the performance of his duties.
