Dooly BOE furloughs staff

VIENNA — In a called meeting Friday, Dooly County Board of Education officially established three personnel furlough days for the second semester of this school year.

Board member Wayne Wilkin said all BOE employees will be furloughed May 14 and May 17. In addition, they will not be paid for a day in January when the schools closed due to the weather conditions.

School employees already had been furloughed three days during the first semester.

“We have no other choice,” Wilkin said. “It’s tough everywhere. I understand that several school systems in the state may be facing bankruptcy. Fortunately Dooly is not one of those.”

In addition to Wilkin, Eddie Almond who is chairman, Melvilla West, Janie Winters and Verlin Jones serve on the present Dooly BOE.
