Fitzgerald —
Officers with the South Central Drug Task Force (SCDTF) have seen an increase in the number of meth labs in the area in recent months.
On Dec. 10, 2010, the SCDTF, with assistance from the Ben Hill County Sheriffs Office arrested William Micajah Batten and Jackie Stanford, both of Fitzgerald, and charged them with manufacturing methamphetamine in Ben Hill County.
Additionally, two meth labs have been discovered in Wilcox County. On Jan 23, 2011, tips led to the discovery of a meth lab in a residence on Owensboro Hwy. in rural Wilcox County.
DTF Agents along with the Wilcox County SO arrested Rochelle resident Michael Gaines and charged him with manufacturing methamphetamine.
One week later, a routine road check by the Middle Georgia Regional Traffic Enforcement Network (MGRTEN) sponsored by the Rochelle Police Department, led to the discovery of a “rolling” meth lab in a truck on GA Hwy. 280 in Rochelle.
DTF Agents along with officers from the Rochelle Police Department investigated the case and then arrested John David Roberts and Bruce Aaron Black, both of Rochelle. Both these men were charged with possession of methamphetamine and manufacturing methamphetamine.
The SCDTF would like to thank the Irwin County Sheriffs Office and in particular, Irwin County Investigator Stephen Rogers for his support in these investigations.
DTF Agents have stepped up our efforts to identify and investigate suspected meth labs in the area. In order to make emergency responders more aware of the dangers of meth labs, the Rochelle Police Department with assistance from DTF Agents sponsored a Meth Lab Awareness class in Rochelle.
Irwin County Investigator Stephen Rogers, a clandestine lab technician, provided meth lab information and safety tips to Wilcox County Police and Emergency Management personnel.
Methamphetamine is a highly addictive and dangerous drug that destroys families and ruins the lives of everyone it touches. The ease with which Meth is manufactured and the vast resources available to the meth cook make this one of the most dangerous drugs in any community.
The South Central Drug Task Force is a multijurisdictional Drug Task Force providing services to Wilcox, Ben Hill and Irwin Counties. Anyone having information related to drug activities is encouraged to call the SCDTF Tips line at (229) 424-0000.
