CORDELE — A 33-year-old Dooly County man faces an assortment of charges as the result of a late Friday night incident at a Bass Street residence.
Lt. Carrie Lull said she was dispatched to the incident location just before midnight to investigate a disturbance when she was alerted that shots were possibly being fired.
Upon arrival, the officer said her investigation indicated an intoxicated Mickey Wiggins, of a 213 West Ave. address in Vienna, went to the home to visit a woman and that while there became enraged.
After striking the apartment owner in the face with a glass bottle that resulted in her suffering an eyebrow area injury and complaining of vision problems, he reportedly threatened to kill others in the apartment..
Wiggins then allegedly attempted to assault two juveniles one of whom said Wiggins tried to stab him with something. A knife was recovered during the incident.
Wiggins then allegedly trashed the premises by throwing glass bowls, soft drinks and other articles as four youngsters ages 7-14 watched.
As the result of his actions, Wiggins was charged with aggravated assault, cruelty to children, terroristic threats and criminal trespass.
In other activity between Thursday and early Monday, officers:
— Investigated a pair of robberies.
A resident of the 1000 block of Fifth St. S. told Sgt. Charles Hill that a black male and female took his cell phone just before noon Thursday and threatened him with a revolver. No other details were listed.
A resident of the 800 block of 11th St. S. told Sgt. Robert Montgomery that just before 2 a.m. Friday a group of black females kicked and beat her and that one of the assailants took her cell phone from her back
pocket.
— Received three vandalism complaints.
A Pateville Estates resident told Cpl. Bruce Gourley that sometime during the night someone threw a rock that broke her kitchen window. The complainant said several similar incidents had occurred in the neighborhood and that she believed children were responsible.
A resident of the 500 block of 21st Ave. W. told Sgt. Charles Pheil just before 9 p.m. Friday that a child shot a pellet gun through a screen and window at his home.
A man visiting his sister’s home on N. Bass St. Saturday afternoon called to report that some had shot into the radiator of his 1966 Ford F150 truck.
— Looked into an alleged child abuse incident.
Cpl. Gourley said he was dispatched to the Department of Juvenile Justice Friday afternoon when a girl on probation reported being mistreated.
The complainant told authorities that her mother had thrown scalding noodles on her and had hurled a radio that struck her in the back.
— Interrupted an early Saturday morning altercation during which shots were fired.
Lt. Carrie Lull said that while in the 11th Street-22nd Avenue area shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday she saw two males “brawling on the sidewalk.” When she stopped and exited her patrol car, both subjects ran as did most members of a crowd that was observing the fight.
Minutes later, Lull was on foot patrol on the area when she heard five shots that appeared to have been fired from the back side of Holsey Cobb Village. At that point, she said two subjects walked away from a group present during the disturbance. She was unable to identify either.
— Made a trio of disorderly conduct arrests.
Sgt. Charles Dennard said he charged Martha Ann Mobley, 47, of 606 Blackshear Rd., shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday when Mobley failed to obey an order he had had given her.
Lt. Louis New said he arrested Oscar Lopez Rojas. 47, of 1008 Fifth St. S., just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday after he allegedly struck another man in the face during an argument over a cell phone.
Cpl. Christina Barfield said she cited Conseula Katrice Woodson, 32, of 301 Fifth Ave. E., after being called to a nearby address to investigate a disturbance during which Woodson reportedly bit another woman.
— Received four theft reports.
A resident of the 500 block of 20th Ave. W. told Cpl. Gourley shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday that sometime during the night someone forced open a window on a tractor in his yard and stole a CD player from it.
A resident of the 300 block of 18th Ave. W. told Cpl. Gourley just before 1 p.m. Saturday that someone entered her 1997 Honda Accord during the previous night and stole a radio from it.
A customer of Cordele Supermarket told Lt. Marvin Milner that while she was at the 24th Avenue store someone took $30 worth of grocery items from the car in which took her to that location.
A resident of the 900 block of 12th St. S. told Cpl. Jesse Barfield late Sunday night that someone had entered her 2007 Honda Accord and had taken $8 in cash, two bottles containing prescription drugs, a bag of charcoal and a CD case containing 20 CDs.
— Filed a theft by shoplifting complaint against a man who just over 2 1/2 hours after being ushered from a convenience food store where he had reportedly attempted to steal beer was caught trying to take $10 worth of socks from another business.
Lt. Lull said she took Charles Clark Jr., 60, of 7-8 S. Hickory St., into custody at 6:40 p.m. when employees of Dollar General’s Seventh St. S. location said he was seen trying to take the footwear. Lull said Clark has been convicted of four prior shoplifting offense.
— Ticketed a 21-year-old woman for discharging firearms in the city limits Saturday night.
Lt. Louis New said that when he responded to the 400 block of First Ave. W. in reference to shots being fired he learned that Tiffany Dawson and a man had been involved in an argument. As she attempted to pull a gun from her purse, the weapon discharged.
— Responded to a possible armed robbery attempt of a local motel patron.
Sgt. Charles Pheil said he went to the Athens Motel just before 11 p.m. when a guest reported that upon hearing a knock at his door he looked outside to see a black male sitting in a maroon car putting on a black ski mask. He said he also saw another black male standing at his room door.
The complainant said that apparently realizing he had been seen, the man in the car drove away. Officers searched for but could not locate the vehicle.
— Picked up Michael Tatum 27, of 126 Bowens Rd., on a probation violation warrant issued by Ben Hill County authorities. Sgt. Dennard was the arresting officer.
