Contractor waiting on DOT approval

Cordele —

CORDELE — With the final week of summer winding down, construction on I-75 through Crisp County is “complete for the most part,” says Archer Western Project Manager Brian Woods.

“We have a design issue in the median that we must fix,” Woods says. “We have submitted our plan to the state DOT and now we are waiting on a response from them.”

Once Archer Western gets a positive response from DOT officials, Woods added, the work will require about 30 days, then barrels can be removed and six lanes will be open to traffic.

“It’s not a speedy process when we have to work with several governing agencies,” Woods explained.

Georgia DOT also is in the process of developing plans for improvements to 16th Ave. (Hwy. 280) at the I-75 overpass. “That work was not part of the original contract,” Woods said, “and DOT is looking at the best way to incorporate it into the project.”

Archer Western will be making a proposal to complete the work once DOT establishes the specifications, Woods adds. Again, he has no details about the scope of the project nor a timeline for the completion of the work.

“DOT is making the calls about what happens on 16th Ave.,” he said. Traffic lights have been installed on both sides of the interstate, but they probably will not be activated until the improvements are complete, Woods said.
