Cordele —
The Secret Service has been asked to assist in an investigation after Crisp County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two males here who were attempting to pass fraudulent checks Tuesday.
The CCSO received an initial complaint from the proprietor of a business in the downtown area, commonly known for cashing checks. Two subjects were attempting to pass the checks in his establishment, the complainant said.
Deputies were contacted by the store owner Wednesday morning when the same subject tried again to pass what the store owner believed to be fraudulent checks.
SFC Teresa Miller arrived at the scene, along with deputy Cole Eason. The two made contact with the first suspect, and he was taken into custody.
A second suspect was arrested during a traffic stop after he attempted to leave the area. Both subjects were transported to the Crisp County LEC.
The first offender is being charged with possession of a counterfeit license and forgery while the second offender is charged with being a party to the crime of forgery.
The investigation is ongoing, according to Sheriff Donnie Haralson.
