Wilcox teens injured in Tift. Co. accident

TIFTON — Five Wilcox County teens, attending a camp at the Church of God Campground, were injured Monday morning when the SUV they were riding in flipped into the yard of a residence off Union Road here.

The identity of the driver was not released by the Georgia State Patrol.

A spokesman there said that the reason the name would not be released is because he is a juvenile and charges against him are pending.

He was airlifted from Tifton to the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon for treatment of multiple injuries. Wednesday afternoon, he reportedly remained in critical condition.

He is scheduled for surgery today.

Passengers Haley Fisher, 15, of Abbeville; Brandon Davis, 14, of Pitts and Macy Barnard, 15, also of Pitts, were treated and released, according to a spokesman at Tift Regional Medical Center.

A fourth passenger, Ricardo Lazo, 15, of Rochelle, was admitted to TRMC for injuries, but was released on Tuesday morning.

According to TFC Dana Harnage, the driver of the vehicle, with the other young people left the campground to travel to Tifton for something to eat.

Harnage said they went the wrong way, turning south on Union Road. After turning around, the vehicle traveled off the east edge of the roadway, turned counterclockwise, struck a road sign, came back across the road and traveled back off the west side of Union Road.

The SUV then rolled several times and struck a parked car before crashing into the steps of the residence at 4788 Union Road. It came to rest on the vehicle’s passenger side.

The driver and two passengers were ejected from the vehicle during the crash. No one at the residence was injured.
