PINEHURST — Just as precious gems take many years to reach their most beautiful form, it takes years of patience and hard work for people to grow and develop.
Fullington Valedictorian Lori Woodward used that analogy as she addressed her graduating class, their parents and friends in the school gym Friday evening.
“A real diamond will stay true,” she said. “You need courage to show the real you. Always remember where you came from and what it took to get here.
“Don’t let the world change you, but instead, you change the world,” she concluded.
Earlier in the ceremony, Salutatorian Elizabeth Owens had challenged her classmates to “enjoy and cherish the climb.
“You have so much potential. You will turn whatever life brings you into something wonderful,” she said to her fellow graduates.
Both young ladies thanked their families, teachers and coaches for their support through the years.
Before Board Chairman Jeff Peavy presented diplomas to the 16 graduates, several scholarships were awarded.
Miss Woodward received the Senior Beta scholarship, and another one from Middle Georgia EMC.
She also qualified for academic awards in English, math, science and social studies. Another award went to her for being named the Fullington and Dooly County STAR student earlier in ithe year.
The valedictorian received the DAR Good Citizen award, and the SAR Good Citizen award went to John Sanders.
Sanders and Alex Peavy were recipients of the Jerry & Linda Garden scholarship. Radley Jones was awarded the Chris & Cory West memorial scholarship.
Both yearbook and Future Business Leaders of Fullington Academy awards were presented to Courtney Jones. Josh Gregory received the academic award for business.
Several other scholarship awards that had already been presented were mentioned.
In addition to Misses Woodward and Owens, other honor graduates were Riley Mack Moore, Alex Peavy and Austin Warbington.
