CORDELE — Crisp County Sheriff Donnie Haralson issued a flood warning Thursday morning. It extends until 12:15 p.m. today.
Lake Blackshear was not a problem as far as flooding was concerned Thursday afternoon, officials said, but many roads have water over them.
As of 4 p.m. Thursday, 22 roads were inundated and several roads in Crisp County were closed including Airport Road, Slade Road, Ward Road, Arabi-Warwick Road and Farmer’s Market Road.
“We may have to close more roads depending on what happens in the next several hours,” Haralson said.
In Dooly County, Road Superintendent Tommy Watson and his staff were busy putting precaution signs beside as many dirt roads as possible to try to encourage drivers to slow down and be careful.
The only road closed in Dooly County, he said, was Taylor Ginn Road.
In Wilcox County, road superintendent Jarrell Jones, reported roads to be wet and dangerous, but he said no roads were closed. The national weather service has reported some concerns near Abbeville as the river rises.
Most area schools are closed today due to flooding concerns. Crisp County Schools, Crisp Academy, Dooly County Schools, Fullington Academy and Wilcox County Schools are all closed today. Members of many of the school staffs were supposed to report for work as usual, however.
