WILCOX COUNTY — Herman Greene, Rochelle fire chief, urges more caution in burning leaves and debris after Wilcox County fire and rescue crews worked several fire scenes on Sunday.
“Citizens should get a burn permit and not burn if it’s a windy day,” he said.
A brush fire south of Highway 215 threatened several nearby structures. A total of four brush fires kept fire units during the day.
The only structure fire was a chicken house on Branch Road in Rochelle That building had minor damage to the insulation and ceiling, according to Greene. He said the fire probably started in a heater inside the structure.
Fire and rescue crews also responded to a vehicle fire on Highway 280 East in Pitts in front of the Church of God Sunday morning. No injuries were reported in any of the fires.
