Area dodges weather bullet
For several hours Saturday, it was touch and go as far as the weather was concerned, but in the end, the only damage reported was a couple of downed trees.
About 1:30 p.m., a tornado reportedly touched down in the Pineview area in Wilcox County. A Cordele Dispatch reporter was dispatched to the community, but he found no visible damage.
Heavy rain fell in the area and at various times, tornado watches and warnings were issued for Crisp, Dooly and Wilcox Counties. No funnel clouds reportedly touched the ground, however, except in Pineview.
There were reports of a downed tree in Cordele, and water over the road on I-75, but law enforcement personnel handled those situations quickly, and no accidents or injuries were reported.
Rain was supposed to continue falling through the night and into Sunday morning with cooler temperatures to follow.
Parts of Georgia may see some snow flurries today.
