Runoff elections in Georgia have been set for Tuesday, Dec. 2, and advanced voting will be conducted at the usual places in the tri-county area Monday, Nov. 24 through Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Wilcox County voters will be choosing a county commissioner in the runoff. All Georgia voters will be filling three state-wide posts including that for U. S. Senator.

In the Nov. 4 special election for District 2 and 4 commission and board of education seats in Wilcox County, no one in the District 2 commission race polled the necessary 50% +1 votes.

Frontrunner in that contest, David Brown will face his closest challenger, Marvin Talley in the runoff. Brown tallied 267 or 43% of the total on Nov. 4 while Talley got 194 or 32% of the total.

Incumbent James Marcy Stone finished third with 154 votes or 25% of the total.

With 99% of the state ballots counted, Incumbent U. S. Senator Saxby Chambliss still falls just short of the percentage he needs for a clear win. It is likely that he will face his Democratic challenger, Jim Martin in the runoff.

According to the Secretary of State website Monday, Chambliss had received a total of 1,864,909 votes or 49.8% of those cast. Martin had 1,754,108 votes or 46.8% of the total.

Libertarian Allen Buckley polled 3.4% of the votes to force the expected runoff.

Other statewide races on the runoff ballot will include public service commissioner for District 4 in the northern part of the state and the Court of Appeals post which attracted a total of seven contenders in the General Election.

For the public service commission post, Jim Powell gained 1,729,182 votes or 47.8% of the total. Lauren McDonald Jr. had 1,707,133 votes or 47.2% of the total.

Brandon Givens, a Libertarian finished with 4.9% of the total to deny either Powell or McDonald the necessary majority.

Sara Doyle was the frontrunner in the Court of Appeals race, taking 619,054 votes or 22.5%. Her closest challenger was Mike Sheffield with 573,275 votes or 20.9% of the total. The two of them will meet in the Dec. 2 runoff.
