CORDELE — Recently the Crisp County Board of Elections and Registration received clearance from the U.S. Department of Justice to close the Hatley voting precinct.
Beginning with the July 15, 2008 primary elections, all registered voters who have voted at the Hatley Community Clubhouse in past years will be reassigned to a new voting precinct. This will continue throughout all subsequent elections thereafter.
All registered voters who live north of Hatley and have voted in the Hatley district in the past are now assigned to vote in the Listonia precinct. All registered voters residing South of Hatley, who have voted in the Hatley district, will now be assigned to vote in the Arabi district.
The change was made because these three precincts are so small, having less than 200 people. Other precincts have at least 800-900. When this situation occurs the state steps in and asks that they be incorporated into other precincts.
Hatley voters have been mailed a new precinct card. This card shows the voting precinct and the address where the voter needs to go on election day to cast a ballot. The card is for information only and does not need to be presented to vote.
The public should also be reminded that there are options other than voting on election day.
An absentee ballot can be requested either by mail, by facsimile transmission, or in person in the election supervisor’s office not more than 180 days prior to the date of the election, primary, or run-off.
Voters may call Brenda H. Turner, election supervisor in Crisp County at (229)276-2611 if they have any questions concerning the absentee ballot request and the information that must be supplied to receive such a ballot.
Also, one week of advance voting is held the week prior to each election day. This extends Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the Crisp County Courthouse Annex or from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the election supervisor’s office in room 105 of the Crisp County Courthouse.
Anyone who is a registered voter in any of the Crisp County precincts may cast their ballots during the advance voting. A photo I.D. is required when voting in person.
Advance voting is conducted in every county in Georgia.
