PITTS — Two men have been arrested on drug charges stemming from an ongoing investigation into the illegal sale of narcotics in Wilcox County.
Agents from the South Central Drug Task Force, along with deputies from the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office, served three separate search warrants on Friday on the residence and business of 52-year-old Harris McBurse of Pitts, as well as the residence of 38-year-old Stephen Mullis of Rochelle.
McBurse was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and Mullis was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession.
According to reports from the WCSO, authorities started an investigation of McBurse after receiving information that he was possibly involved in the illegal sale and distribution of marijuana.
Enough information was obtained to request search warrants at his home on Pearce Road, as well as his carwash on Grady Street in Rochelle.
Authorities also gathered enough evidence on Mullis, who is an employee of McBurse, to request a search warrant on his home at the corner of Highway 280 and Grady Street. All three warrants were executed shortly after 4 p.m. Friday.
Wilcox County Sheriff Stacy Bloodsworth said further charges could be filed, pending the outcome of the investigation.
Both men were taken into custody and transported to the Wilcox County Jail.
