Food Bank ready to distribute items locally

ALBANY – The Food Bank of Southwest Georgia plans to provide two Manna Mobile Pantry trucks next week, each containing over 5,000 pounds of food and drinks. The trucks will make stops in Cordele and Warwick.

The first truckload will be distributed on Tuesday, April 29 starting at 10 a.m. at the Cordele movie theater on 16th Ave. E. Volunteers with the Adventist Community Services will be on site to hand out the food.

“We have distributed approximately 250,000 pounds of food through our partner agencies to those in need of food assistance in Crisp County over the past two years,” said Tony Hall, vp of operations with the Food Bank.

“And we are committed to continuing the fight against hunger in Crisp County and throughout Southwest Georgia.”

The second truckload will be distributed on Saturday, May 3, starting at 10 a.m. at the common area across from the Warwick fire station. This manna truck will be used as a kick-off to the opening of a new food pantry in Warwick called Fishes & Loaves, which will be sponsored by the Warwick United Methodist Church.

“We have seen God open so many doors for us to start this pantry,” said Tommy Crenshaw, director of Fishes & Loaves, “which is confirmation that we are doing the right thing for those in need here in our community.”

Food Bank of Southwest Georgia, Inc., located in Albany is one of eight non-profit food banks in Georgia that is a part of America’s Second Harvest Food Bank Network.

The Food Bank provides food and grocery products to more than 300 agencies (i.e. churches, soup kitchens, food pantries, rescue missions, etc.) throughout a 20 county area in Southwest Georgia.

It also operates a Mobile Pantry Program, BackPack™ Programs, and is in the process of starting their first Kids Cafe© Program. Over the past two years, the Food Bank has distributed 5 million pounds of food and grocery products throughout Southwest Georgia.
