Vienna city hall will be moved to bank location
VIENNA — In a regular meeting of the Vienna City Council on Monday night, members voted to proceed with the relocation of city hall.
This will start with the purchase of the old Bank of Dooly building on Cotton St.
Council members also passed a motion to ask an appraiser to assess the Vienna Heritage House (old City Hall) so that it can be placed on the market for sale. They were told that Georgia Power has connected the meters for the new street lamps in the downtown area, and Cook Electric was slated to hook them up Tuesday.
National Crime Victims’ Rights Week will end Thursday with a candlelight ceremony in Cordele, and Council members were invited to attend, along with the general public. The ceremony will be conducted at the Victims’ Memorial Wall at the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office at 6 p.m.
Council also was informed of several upcoming events including the Turkey Creek Festival in Byromville, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 3 and Municipal Clerk’s week which is May 4-10.
In other business, Council:
• Were informed that an income tax credit passed in legislature. It will give credit to businesses and residents who purchase old buildings and property and restore them. • Expressed concern about a bill that will permit gun carriers, with licenses, to carry their guns into public establishments such as restaurants and supermarkets.

Lake Blackshear will be lowered
CORDELE — The Crisp County Power Commission will be lowering Lake Blackshear this fall as it does every other year.
The lake will be drawn down approximately 3 1/2 feet below normal on a gradual basis starting the first week in November (Nov. 1st) . It will remain down through the 15th of December.
The purpose of the drawdown is to allow lake property owners a chance to repair existing structures. Also, the drawdown should slow some of the aquatic plant growth in the lake.
Anyone wishing to construct new structures, including seawalls, or make substantial repairs to their existing structures are advised to contact Marcus Waters, resource manager, to determine the necessity of any needed permits from the Crisp County Power Commission and/or other state and federal agencies. -
