Georgia DOT announces detour

From STAFF REPORTS

Ashburn — Georgia DOT announced that Norfolk Southern Railroad has scheduled crews to upgrade the railroad crossing on SR7/US 41 at Milepost 12.35, north of Ashburn in Turner County.

Weather permitting, beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2007 SR 7/US 41 traffic will be detoured until 6 p.m. This detour is being done to allow Norfolk Southern Railroad to replace the existing crossing surface with a prefabricated concrete system.

The detour routes will be as follows:

Northbound traffic will be detoured north onto SR 159 in Ashburn, then north on I-75. Then take Exit 92 and turn left(west) onto Arabi Road/1st Street and then back onto SR 7/US 41.

Southbound traffic will be detoured east onto 1st Street/Arabi Road in Arabi, then south on I-75. Then take Exit 84 and turn right(east) onto SR 159(Amboy Rd) and then back onto SR 7/US 41.

As work progresses on this project, as well as any GDOT construction project, motorists are reminded to pay attention to all traffic control devices, including flagmen, signs and striping as they travel through the work zone. Safety of the traveling public and workers is a top priority for GDOT and informed, attentive motorists help shifts such as this occur smoothly and safely.

Georgia DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about this or any other construction project on interstates and state routes. Georgia 511 is a free phone service that provides real-time traffic and travel information statewide, such as traffic conditions, incidents, lane closures, and delays due to bad weather.

Callers can also reach live operators to request assistance or report incidents 24 hours a day, seven days a week. More information is available at www.511ga.org. Georgia 511 – we’ll get you there.
