Voters in several Dooly County cities as well as Pineview in Wilcox County can begin early voting in their municipal elections Monday at the various city halls. Advanced voting continues through Friday, Nov. 2, then the actual election is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
Anyone who wishes to cast an absentee ballot in any of these elections also must request that ballot by Friday, Nov. 2. The ballot has to be mailed and received at the appropriate City Hall by election day, Nov. 6.
City elections have been cancelled in Crisp County and the remaining Dooly and Wilcox County cities because none of the candidates who qualified for office there drew any opposition.
In Vienna, Incumbent Mayor Willie J. Davis is being challenged by political newcomer Lanier Roberts. Eddie Daniels is running unopposed for his council seat while Mike Roper and Brenda Gramm each are trying to gain the seat vacated by the retirement of Dr. Napoleon Williams.
Byromville Mayor Kenneth R. Lester has opposition from Victor William Clark Sr. Qualifying to fill the Town Council post most recently held by Earlie Mae Clayton are Thomas Byron Bragg and Gladys Hardrick. Clayton did not qualify for re-election.
Incumbent Byromville Councilperson Conshelloah Clayton has opposition from Teresa “Terri” Reed Gregory while Carla Howard will face Joseph Keith Lamberth.
Incumbent Unadilla Mayor Charles West has drawn opposition from Dr. Bobby G. West and Chuck Jones. Incumbent Councilmen Jeffrey D. Minor and Greg Speight are joined by John Offenberg, Lewis Lockerman and Sarah Ingram Whittaker in the race to fill three seats presently held by Minor, Speight and Bobby West.
In Lilly, four people have qualified for three vacant seats including two incumbents, Lawrence “Chip” Dunmon Jr. and Frankie L. Daniels Jr. Also running are Roger W. Nutt and Derek Allen. The three candidates who get the most votes will serve. One incumbent councilman, Willie Mack Hamilton, has chosen not to seek re-election for health reasons.
In Pineview, six people have qualified for three vacant city council seats including two incumbents, Linda “Shage” Batten Bruton and George M. Scott. Also attempting to gain a seat on the Pineview Council are Glenda Lawson McMillar, Cecil Black, Lester “Mann” Mahogany, and Betty Ewing.
General elections will be held Nov. 6 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
