CORDELE — As part of the 2007 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, three local area officers were recognized by the Victim-Witness Assistance Program of the Cordele Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for their outstanding service to victims of crime.
Deputy Cozie Ray of the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, Tfc. Dwayne Massey of Georgia State Patrol Post #30 and Major John David Killiebrew of the Rochelle Police Department all received recognition.
“These officers are shining examples of law enforcement’s dedication and commitment to crime victims,” said Amy Lapeza, victim-witness advocate. “These officers not only assist the victims of crime they encounter through their duties, but they often prevent other citizens from becoming victims of crime by enforcing the law and seeking to make sure that our community is a safe place to live.
“Deputy Ray’s utmost concern for victims and his tireless pursuit of offenders has helped many victims begin to feel safe again, knowing their offender was no longer at large.
“Massey’s arrest of numerous DUI offenders and his work with fellow officers, both within the GSP, as well as other agencies to better enforce the laws and keep drunk drivers off the highways, have prevented countless citizens from becoming victims of crime.
“Officer Killiebrew’s caring and attention to the needs of crime victims is clear from his hard work in seeking to achieve justice for those victims and commitment to promoting a safe community,” she added.
