Pitts plans NARCOA Festival for March 31st

PITTS — Folks in historical downtown Pitts are gearing up for what they hope to be another successful festival for their community.

On Saturday, March 31, the Pitts Downtown Development Authority will host the third annual NARCOA Festival (North America Rail Car Owners Association) with a day full of activities for young and old alike.

According to Delano Braziel, Pitts DDA, the NARCOA owners will begin arriving in downtown Pitts on Wednesday, March 28 and will set up camp or park their motor homes along the railroad tracks in preparation for Saturday and Sunday’s excursions with the Heart of Georgia Railroad.

In celebration of their presence, the town of Pitts has implemented the festival in their honor.

Braziel said from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. that Saturday, different activities will be going on including local entertainment, food sales, arts and crafts, and displays by various artists, authors and photographers.

The day ends with a street dance from 7-10 p.m. in downtown Pitts.

In addition, several recently restored stores in the downtown district will be open for festival-goers to browse through.

While at the festival, Braziel said to be sure and be there when the railcar enthusiasts depart downtown at 8 a.m. headed for the town of Alamo. They will return at 4:30 p.m.

Admission to the festival is free and open to the public.
