Nell White - Entrepreneur

By NANCY GIBBS

With unemployment at an all time high, we worry and complain. Those who have lost jobs in our country are frightened, as the economy spins out of control.

Nell White and many of her family members found out what it was like not to have jobs.

Mark’s Diner, a favorite restaurant of many residents in the Cedar Creek and surrounding areas, closed leaving everyone unemployed. One day the White family had good jobs - all working together. The next day they were all unemployed.

Initially, White says, “I was devastated.” Instead of letting her plight keep her down, though, she decided to do something about it. She reopened the doors of the restaurant under a new name.

Nell’s Generations Restaurant is now open and serving Cordele, Warwick and the surrounding areas. White also greets and serves travelers on Highway 300.

Among her employees is one daughter, two granddaughters, two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. Opening a restaurant as a family had been a dream of the ladies for a long time. There’s nothing better than having the courage to address a problem and turn it into an opportunity to do something you always wanted to do.

Nell’s Generations Restaurant serves home-cooked meals. They also specialize in seafood and steak. Meals are available for dine-in or carry-out. The tasty entrees and veggies are yummy. The homemade desserts, such as banana pudding, cakes and pies top off the perfect meal.

As guests enter the establishment, White sees to it that her guests feel a cozy and homey atmosphere right off the bat. They are greeted with a smile and served quickly.

The next time you want a good meal out, won’t you step back in time, let your hair down and visit with several generations of people who have decided that nothing, even unemployment, will keep them from doing what they love – serving the public.

Even in her senior years, White stepped out and did something most people would be afraid to do especially with the economy like it is today.

Nell’s Generations Restaurant is located at 2062 Highway 300, South between Cordele and Warwick. The telephone number is (229) 535-6430.

She and her family is open and waiting for customers, seven days a week.
