From STAFF REPORTS
CORDELE — The owner of what the city’s animal control officer described as “a vicious pit bulldog” has been cited for allowing the canine to run loose and for two violations of the state rabies ordinance.
Capt. Tommy Jackson made those cases Monday morning against Johnny L. Ferguson III, 24, of 106 Bass St. S.
Jackson said he was told upon arrival at the scene that the bulldog had killed a dog in the roadway and had dragged it into a dog house at his owner’s home where another pit bulldog was tied up on the north side of the house.
When Ferguson called police about getting his dog back, he was told he could do so if he made sure the animal was properly restrained.
In other activity on Monday, officers:
— Said a juvenile victim was taken to Crisp Regional Hospital by his parents early Monday night when he was stabbed on the left forearm during an attempted strong arm robbery near Morningside Homes on Second St. N.
The victim told Pvt. Erica Cromer two white males approached and demanded his money and then pushed him when he informed them he had none. At that point, he hit one of the would-be robbers in the mouth with his fist before the other offender pulled out a knife and attacked him. They then left the area in a red extended cab truck.
— Responded to a terroristic threats and acts complaint filed shortly after 11 p.m. from an apartment in the 500 block of 23rd Ave. W.
Pvt. Erica Cromer said two different females at the scene told her a man they named had pointed a small handgun at them while making verbal threats. Both victims said the offender repeatedly told them at gunpoint he would hurt them before he ultimately left the scene. Investigation of the incident is continuing.
— Received a theft complaint from a resident of the 100 block of Third St. S.
The victim told Sgt. Robert Green that sometime between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday someone entered her unlocked car parked in the roadway in front of her home.
The purse reportedly contained approximately $300 in cash, her checkbook and her driver’s license was taken.
— Probed a criminal trespass incident in which and Oconee Circle man told Sgt. Charles Dennard the contents of his garbage can had been set ablaze. He used a fire extinguisher to douse the flames before the container was damaged.
— Filed a shoplifting charge against Quindarius Wilson, 18, of 1101 16th Ave. E.
Sgt. Ketorie Sales said he stopped Wilson for questioning when he saw him walking in the 700 block of 15th Avenue with a large item stuffed in his right pants leg.
It turned out that Wilson reportedly had in his possession a $5 towel he is accused of taking from Dollar General’s 16th Ave. E. location.
— Issued a nationwide missing person alert for a local man, Alfred Dempsey, who has made no contact with members of his family since late May or early June.
— Cited Willie Fred West, 38, of 1652 Drayton Rd., for disorderly conduct after being called to CVS Pharmacy in mid-afternoon in reference to a subject asking customers for money,
When encountered, West denied such action but when told he was being charged with disorderly conduct he reportedly resisted and ran until the officers ‘tased” him from about 15 feet away.
— Looked into a report filed by a local physician that someone had called in prescriptions to Wal-Mart as if they had been authorized by the doctor. Wal-Mart was notified of the incident.
— Took James Anthony Brown, 35, of 605 10th Ave. W., into custody for Dooly County authorities who had an outstanding warrant against him for failure to appear in court. Ptl. Forsythe said Brown was arrested when he came to the police department in reference to another case.
