CORDELE - A local man faces armed robbery charges after he led police on an early morning chase Friday.
Derrick Antonio Mason, 22, of a First Ave. E. address is accused of entering a Spring Lane residence about 12:30 a.m. Friday and demanding money from the resident at gunpoint.
According to a Cordele Police Department press release, SSgt. Carrie Lull observed the suspect running between buildings as she entered the C. C. Shearer Apartments. Lull, Sgt. Charles Pheil and Cpl. B. J. Gourley all responded to the call.
Pheil and Gourley entered the complex on foot and began their search. Following a short foot chase, the two officers, along with Pvt. Clint Latham who had joined them, were able to capture the suspect.
They said he still had on the same jacket and bandanna that the victim said he used to conceal his identity during the holdup. The stolen cash was recovered near the site where Mason was captured, the release indicated.
Mason also is charged with obstruction of an officer and is being held in the Crisp County Dentention Facility. The investigation is on-going.
