Registered voters in area cities where elections are underway today are reminded to exercise their right to vote.
Cordele voters will be choosing three commissioners, including a chairman. All three incumbents, Chairman Zack Wade, Willie Colson Jr. and Jeanie Bartee have opposition.
Wade is opposed by Jamie C. Fernandez and Antwoin Yowe for an at-large position. In Ward II, Colson faces opposition from Curtis Lucas Jr. Ward III voters will find three names on their ballots including Bartee, John Lee Bagwell and Larry Felton. Only residents of those respective wards can vote for the two latter positions.
In Unadilla, six candidates are vying for three council seats. Incumbents Dexter Whittaker and Clint Shugart are joined in the race by Meredith Lester, Charles R. Doster, Earle Hudson and Harold Bryant. The three candidates who receive the most votes in the at-large elections will be declared winners.
Pinehurst and Abbeville voters also will be going to the polls today. Incumbent Abbeville Mayor Gene Tomberlin faces opposition from Michael Edward Kling Jr. In Pinehurst, incumbent Councilman Harold Bowden must run against Josephine Greene.
