CORDELE — Charges were filed charges against both persons involved in a Friday morning accident in the 1000 block of 13th Ave. E., according to Cordele Police Department weekend records.
Officer Chris Forsythe said he cited Allen Dale Hayes, 29, of 1846 Hwy. 90 S., for DUI (third offense) and driving on a suspended license (second offense) and also served him with a lost license affidavit and suspension/revocation and habitual violator notices.
Hayes’ passenger, Lindsey Dee Sword, 30, of 3960 First Ave. in Arabi, was charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. She initially claimed to have been driving the vehicle involved in the mishap, but the investigating officer said Haye’s nose injury and blood found in the vehicle were more consistent with him being the driver.
— Received two shoplifting complaints.
Employees of Mitchell Bait and tackle told Lt. frank Wise that two young black males entered that store Friday morning, took two boxes of Skittles valued at $35 each and ran out the door. One of them dropped his box of candy but the other did not. Neither was apprehended.
Workers at Dollar General’s 16th Ave. E. location told Cpl. Christina Martinez that a subject they described entered their store Saturday morning and took four packages of toilet tissue valued at $26 without making payment.
When the alleged offender later identified as Lorenza Antwanne Solomon, 40, of 910 18th Ave. E., returned to the store, he was taken into custody on charges of both shoplifting and apprehension of a person wanted on a previous child support warrant.
— Looked into three theft complaints.
A resident of the Hilltop Apartments located on 24th Ave. W. told Cpl. Christina Martinez that a subject she knew only by his nickname took $85 from her purse and ran when she told him she was calling police.
As it turned out, the alleged offender is believed to be a person with whom she has had a long-time relationship and has made previous reports regarding him.
An employee of Hampton Inn told Cpl. Martinez someone drilled the locks out of three vending machines there and stole an estimated $50.
A resident of the 300 block of 17th Ave. W. told Cpl. Martinez a .22-caliber derringer had been removed from the kitchen table in her home. She gave the officer the name of the person she believes is responsible for the theft.
— Responded to a fraud complaint made by a Canary St. resident who told Cpl. Martinez that a male with a strong Middle Eastern accident called her Friday afternoon and identified himself as a representative of Medicaid. When he asked her to get her checkbook and provide information from it, she hung up the telephone.
Upon calling the number that showed up on her caller ID, the victim received a recording stating the incident was a Medicaid scam and that the police should be notified of the incident.
— Charged a McDonald’s drive-thru customer with disorderly conduct after she allegedly created quite a scene there Friday night. It was not the first time she had done so, according to workers there.
In the latest incident, employees told Pvt. Erica Cromer that Samantha Reed, 36, of a 672 Brock Rd., Arabi, address repeatedly demanded to be served fresh French fries and refused to move her vehicle so that customers behind her could retrieve their food.
The officer said Reed also refused her initial request to move her car before being firmly told her car would be towed if she did not do so. She then pulled to the other side of the parking lot where when informed she was under arrest asked what would happen when she fails to appear in court.
— Said a Tin Top Club patron sustained several lacerations to his abdominal area during an altercation reportedly shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday.
The victim, who was identified on police reports only by the last name of Clayton, provided Sgt. Charles Pheil with the name of his assailant who is being sought on an aggravated assault warrant.
— Placed a lookout for a Pinehurst man who reportedly went to a 16th Ave. E. motel just before 5 a.m. Saturday and first attempted to force his way into a room occupied by three persons he knew and then after being allowed inside all of them.
Pvt. Cromer said the offender first went after the mother of his 17-month-old child and pushed her head into a wall three times with one of the occasions leading to actual penetration of the bathroom door.
When the two other occupants tried to defend her, the assailant twice threw one of them across the bed, struck the other more than 10 times in the back of his head and then upon leaving took the cell phone of his first victim.
Warrants were to be initially sought against the offender for three counts of simple battery, damage to private property and theft by taking but based upon follow-up investigation and an agreement between the offender and the victims a decision was made to not prosecute.
— Arrested Tony Bernard Smith, 38, of 1905 Turner St. S., for probation violation.
