Cordele policespend busy weekend
From STAFF REPORTS
CORDELE — A 26-year-old Cordele man has been arrested in connection with an Oct. 15th robbery by snatching incident after he was found hiding in his apartment this past Saturday.
Sgt. Ketorie Sales said that while looking for Otario Lamar Jackson at 605-C 23rd Ave. W. he initially was told by a woman residing there that Jackson was not present.
She then walked to another apartment, leaving a baby crying upstairs. When officers searched the residence, Jackson was found in an upstairs bedroom closet.
In other weekend activity, officers:
— Said four vehicles parked at a Frontage Road motel were either entered or attempted to be entered Friday night.
Sgt. Robert Green said a Magellan GPS system and approximately $15 in change was taken from one of the vehicles and that a Magnavox car seat-mounted DVD player was stolen from another. Nothing was missing from a third vehicle that was actually entered. Entry was not gained to the fourth vehicle.
— Recovered a vehicle stolen from Marvair located on Seedling Dr.
An employee told Sgt. Green a black 1994 GMC pickup was stolen sometime Thursday night. Green later found the truck abandoned at Reed Park. About a quarter tank of gas had been used.
— Responded to a pair of burglary reports.
An occupant of the 400 block of 28th Ave. E. told Sgt. Carrie Lull on Sunday that while he and his family had been away from home for several days someone entered the residence without having to force their way inside.
Listed as missing were two flat screen television sets, a DVD player, a Playstation 3 with two controllers, a video game and a diamond men’s watch.
Nothing was reported taken in the other burglary that occurred in the 500 block of 12th Ave. W.
The occupant there told Sgt. Robert Green entry apparently was made through a broken window. The offender apparently fled through a back door when he heard the complainant returning home.
— Received four theft complaints.
An occupant of the 600 block of 19th Ave. W. flagged down Lt. Louis New to report that someone entered his vehicle and took the title and insurance card for it.
A resident of the 500 block of 13th Ave. E. told Sgt. Robert Montgomery that someone had taken a Hi-Point .38-caliber pistol from his home.
A resident of the 300 block of 17th Ave. E. complained to Cpl. Jesse Barfield that someone stole the tag from her vehicle Friday night.
A resident of the 300 block of Fourth St. S. told Lt. Lloyd Anderson someone cut a cable attached to his lawn mower and then stole it. The mower is valued at $280.
— Assumed possession of a loaded Cobra 9 MM two-shot pistol that an employee of The Clubb had seized from a would-be patron. When the gun was seized from that person trying to enter the South Joe Wright Drive location, he ran.
— Went to Crisp Region Hospital shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday to investigate two attacks on private citizens.
A juvenile told Sgt. Montgomery he was assaulted by three other youths in the 1000 block of Blackshear Rd. That case remains under investigation.
An adult male told Lt. New a subject known to him only as “Duke Man” fired a pistol and then struck him on the head with that weapon after initially commenting upon an attack the victim’s cousin had made on a cousin of the offender.
— Made numerous assorted arrests.
Lt. Anderson charged three juveniles with entering a motor vehicle with the intent to commit theft after being called to CVS Pharmacy shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday to investigate a vehicle being broken into.
The victim was able to provide a description of the youths who smashed the passenger window or her 2007 Ford F150 and stole her shoulder bag. The arresting officer located the offenders a short distance away and returned them to the pharmacy where the victim identified them. Her purse was recovered minus $20.
The trio of youths were later identified as suspects in a second vehicle entry in the 100 block of 17th Ave. E. where a woman’s car window was broken and her purse containing only paperwork was removed. It was later found.
Sgt. Charles Hill took Annette Young, 18, of 1916-A 10th St. S., into custody for probation violation.
PFC Clintom Latham said a routine check he made on Herbert Youman Jr. III 38, of 312 19th Ave. W, after spotting him outside a 24th Ave. W. convenience store Friday night disclosed that he was being sought on a warrant issued locally.
— Cpl. Barfield cited Dennis P. Harp, 58, of 212-B 15th Ave. E., for disorderly conduct after being called to that area to investigate a possible indecent exposure.
Harp had called to report seeing an 8-year-old boy living nearby urinating outside. Barfield said Harp became irate and used profanity and that when he refused to calm down he took him into custody.
— Lt. New charged Alvin Rouse, 54, of 410 17th Ave. W. with disorderly conduct after responding to a domestic dispute call at his home.
Sgt. Carrie Lull issued disorderly conduct citations to Wanda Mathis, 38, of 305-C 19th Ave. E., and Stephanie Deniece Byron, 28, of 113 Fifth Ave. W., after being called to the latter’s residence just before 3 a.m. Sunday to investigate a disturbance. Mathis suffered a head laceration that required treatment at the hospital.
Lt. New charged Martha Ann Mobley, 46, of 606-D Blackshear Rd. with disorderly conduct (third offense) after she reportedly forced her way into a residence in the 400 block of 10th St. N. about 3:30 a.m. Sunday. She had been previously instructed to stay away from the man living there.
— Sgt. Montgomery arrested a 16-year-old youth on unspecified charges after being called to the 600 block of 19th Ave. W. just before 6 p.m. Sunday when it was reported that a large crowd of juveniles possibly armed with guns and knives were trying to fight.
Cpl. Barfield cited Juan Escobar, 22, of Vienna, with disorderly conduct after he went to the home of his brother located in the 300 block of 17th Ave. E. and caused a Sunday night disturbance. The offender was intoxicated, the officer said.
Lt. New charged a 15-year-old with unruly juvenile and criminal trespass after he became angry with and cursed his mother because she told his friends to leave the family residence in the 500 block of Eighth Ave. E. During his anger, the teen-ager broke a karaoke machine.
