Burglars strike three times at homes in county
From STAFF REPORTS
CORDELE — Burglars broke into a house and car at a Williams Lake Rd. residence last Thursday and stole an assortment of items valued at approximately $1,500.
The complaint told Deputy Kea Tukes that a 20-inch flat panel television, a Dell computer, a gold ring and a CD player were taken from his uncle’s 1982 Chevrolet Caprice.
In addition, the culprits entered the house and ransacked at least one room. The officer was given the name of a suspect.
A second burglary complaint was filed by a Macedonia Church Rd. home owner who said someone entered his residence and stole two $15 hams from a freezer.
Still a third burglary report was filed by a Turner St. resident who told Deputy Chad Walker someone entered his home through a bathroom window and ransacked the premises. The victim was unsure as to what, if anything, had been taken. His son, however, said his black cell phone had been stolen from his bedroom.
In other sheriff’s department activity within the past week:
— Deputy Wayne Taylor said he was called to a Hanna Road address on Sept. 21 when a resident reported his car had been vandalized.
The victim said the hood, trunk, roof and both sides of the vehicle had been deeply keyed and that feces also had been wiped on the vehicle.
— Said a routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a Turner County man on multiple charges.
Deputy Kenny Purvis was on patrol when he stopped the driver of a white Chevrolet Caprice for running a stop sign at Ga. 300 and Ga. 401.
When the driver was unable to produce a license, a routine background check showed he was wanted on a warrant issued by Dougherty County authorities.
Subsequently charged with suspended license, stop sign violation and wanted person was James L. Askew Jr., 66, of 861 Pearson Rd., Ashburn.
— Received a couple of fraud complaints.
A Seventh St. S. resident told Deputy Al Thompson she had received a call from a Michigan relative who told her she had received some mail for her. Upon opening the correspondence, the relative found two bills from St. Mary’s Hospital addressed to the complainant in her maiden name. The victim said she didn’t know where that hospital was located.
A Dowdy Rd. resident told Investigator Michael Dunnavant someone had made unauthorized charges to her checking account using her debit card.
— Picked up a Dooly County man wanted by Sylvester authorities for probation violation and possession of marijuana.
Deputy Warren Stowe identified the subject as Jerry Coslow, 41, of 99 Lamar Rd., Vienna, and said he took Coslow into custody at a local motel after running a tag check on a suspicious car seen there.
— Arrested Rashandra Leann Jones, 29, whose address was not listed on media reports, on a first degree forgery warrant.
Deputy Stowe said he was on routine patrol when he ran a tag check on a car parked at Pilot Travel Center and learned that Jones had an outstanding warrant. Upon entering the premises, Stowe said he saw a clerk with her middle name on the employee tag and took her into custody.
— Said a Williford Crossing Rd. resident told Deputy Ben Sumner he received a call Wednesday from an Aventura, Fla., Police Department spokesman who informed they had in custody two people who were in possession of a $250 check that apparently had been removed from the victim’s mailbox.
— Requested stalking misdemeanor/ family violence warrants be issued for a U.S. 41 S. resident after a woman complained that she had received 83 calls from the offender between Sept. 3-11. The complainant said she had answered some of the calls begging him to quit harassing her. In the calls, he reportedly threatened the life of himself and her new boyfriend.
The officer’s report said the offender also had sent the complainant a photo in which he held a pistol in his mouth. It was also noted that just over a year ago the subject had attempted suicide by driving off the roadway and striking a pecan tree head-on while talking with the complainant on his cell phone.
