VIENNA — Dooly County has been selected to host a Quality Growth Training Practicum session sponsored by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
This unique event will combine training sessions for the staff of Georgia's Regional Development Centers (RDCs) with real world application exercises as Dooly County initiates its joint comprehensive planning process under the new Local Planning Requirements. The practicum is intended not only to provide RDCs with training on how to assist local governments in meeting the new requirements, but also to provide the host county a foundation on which to build in developing and implementing its joint comprehensive plan.
The entire staff of the Department of Community Affairs Office of Planning and Quality Growth and at least two representatives from each of the sixteen Regional Development Centers in the state will be attending this session that is scheduled for Jan. 31 through Feb. 3. These sessions are intended to spread innovative planning practices and “quality growth” concepts throughout the state.
A team of experts, comprised of the public and private sectors, will work intensively for four days to address local issues that have been identified by citizens and community leaders.
A facilitated community stakeholder meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 31, giving community leaders and interested citizens an opportunity to identify and provide valuable background information and local perspectives on issues that need to be addressed. All Dooly County citizens who would like to participate in this local government planning process are encouraged to do so. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Marise’s Country Cooking Restaurant in Vienna.
They will then recommend innovative approaches to improving the economic vitality and quality of life for Dooly County and its municipalities by focusing on key elements to be addressed in the comprehensive plan.
Recommendations will be presented to local officials at the end of the visit on Feb. 3.
