Cordele — When the Cordele Dispatch’s pet pageant ended at noon Tuesday, “Bug” Owens, a Beagle belonging to Faye and Charles Owens of Cordele was the winner.

Bug and his owners will be featured on the front cover of the October Tri-County Scene. All the other pets also will be pictured and identified inside the magazine.

Readers had an opportunity to vote either with a paper ballot or online. Complete results are posted online at www.cordeledispatch.com. Click on the pet pageant logo on the homepage.

Burnette passes
Long-time resident and community leader Jean Burnette passed away Sunday. Burnette served the City of Cordele first as assistant city administrator from 1974 until 2000 when she became city administrator. She retained that position until her retirement in 2010.
