Cordele — Funeral services for Willie C. Jones will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the People of Faith Christian Church.
BOTH Crisp and Dooly Counties are included in this flood warning. According to the report submitted to the Dispatch, emergency managers in the warned areas are reporting numerous dirt roads with standing water and flood-prone asphalt roads could have problems as well. Rainfall totals have ranged from 3 to 5 inches through the weekend in addition to the 1.5 to 2.5 inches expected through Tuesday morning.
Crisp County Public Works Department reported two road closings as of 4:30 today and that is Laney Road and Stokes Road (between Rowell and Deep Creek). They did advise that in such heavy rains there are always issues with dirt roads but that right now none have been reported unpassable. They advise that citizens exercise caution when traveling.
In phone interviews with the Dispatch this afternoon officials with the Crisp and Dooly County School systems confirmed that school will be in session on Tuesday. Wilcox County has not yet confirmed if they will be having classes tomorrow but we will provide that information as soon as it is available.
Remember, when driving DO NOT attempt to cross water of unknown depth, on foot or in an automobile. DO NOT drive around any barricades. If you see significant flooding wait until the storm has passed and call the National Weather Service at 1-866-763-4466.
