Brothers face local weapons charges

From STAFF REPORTS

CORDELE — Weapons violation charges were levied early Friday against apparent brothers who were stopped for questioning after Cordele Police Department officers had been called to investigate suspicious noises.

Lt. Louis New said he was in the area of 11th Street and 12 1/2 Alleyway t 3:35 a.m. when he observed two subjects in the parking lot of a nearby business. Upon approaching them, he said he noticed that one of them had an open container of beer.

When Sgt. Robert Montgomery arrived as back-up, he asked Omar Dennard, 25, of 712 17th Ave. W., to put the beer down and place his hands on his patrol vehicle.

At that time, Samuel D. Dennard Jr., 28, also of 712 17th Ave. W., informed New that he had a gun in his pocket. It turned out to be a .38-caliber Tarus. Omar Dennard then told the officers he, too, was in possession of a weapon. It was a Kimel .32-caliber revolver.

Both subjects were charged with carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a pistol without a license.

In other police department activity on Thursday and early Friday.

— Arrested James Demetrius Collins, 28, of 2724 10th St., on charges stemming from domestic violence incidents that occurred this past September and November.

Col. Lewis Green said uniformed officers took Collins into custody during the noon hour Thursday after receiving an anonymous tip he was in the 400 block of 14th Ave. W.

Collins was wanted for simple battery and criminal trespass incidents in which in a female victim was struck in the face and a glass table was broken.

— Conducted a follow-up into an incident that previously occurred at Pine Hills County Club.

Pvt. Erica Cromer said golf course manager Aldo Fachini told her premises there did sustain damage during the earlier incident, that he had no knowledge of who might have been responsible for it and that he would provide a damage estimate at a later time.

— Cited Alex Damone Alexander, 32, of 409 Holsey Place, with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana after Crisp County Deputy Walker had arrested him at his home on a state probation warrant.
