Cordele —
CORDELE — Crisp County Middle School went into Code Yellow, which is alert status, Thursday morning, according to a report from Superintendent Jay Brinson.
Police reports show that a 14 year old female was charged with false public alarm after a note was discovered in a bathroom in Den One of the middle school.
The note threatened a “bomb surprise” at a specific time, police said. Brinson said law enforcement personnel were called as soon as the note was found and interpreted as a threat about 10:15 a.m.
Cordele Police and Fire Department staff, along with the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office responded. With all agencies cooperating, school personnel and law enforcement searched the building after the students had been safely ushered out of the area.
Nothing suspicious was discovered, according to Brinson and the police report, so the building was declared safe, and school resumed.
“Thanks to the planning and cooperation that already exists between all the agencies, this event was handled according to plan and was quickly resolved regarding the safety of students and personnel,” said Brinson.
The 14 year old who was identified from the school’s camera system was quickly identified and taken into custody, police reported.
Brinson said the investigation to identify any other students involved continues both with school personnel and law enforcement.
