Cordele — The driver of the front end loader struck by a train this morning has been identified as J.L. Williams of Cordele. In a phone interview with Dispatch reporter Becky Crissman Williams' sister, Freddie Mae Lewis informed that though her brother remains stable but critical condition at Crisp Regional Hospital.
Lewis said that Williams suffered multiple lacerations to the head, arms, hands and legs including a large gash on the side of his thigh. A CT scan has been done and she said that no internal injuries have been reported.
Williams has over 20 years of service with the solid waste department first with the City of Cordele and then with Veolia after they were contracted to handle the city's garbage collection.
