Cordele —
Construction is underway at the Cordele Intermodal Services (CIS) site, according to the facility’s latest newsletter.
Unneeded material is being hauled away from the site and an office building has been put in place. “Anticipation is definitely growing as we near our January opening date,” says CIS President Jonathan Lafevers.
“Our intermodal terminal should be complete around the end of October and the Heart of Georgia railroad is beginning the initial phases of its bridge updates.
“If our timeline holds true, we should meet our goal of a January opening date for Cordele Intermodal Services!”
Lafevers says he has been extremely impressed by the turnout and quality of the applicants who have submitted resumes so far. “We will begin to get in touch with those that have qualified for initial interviews within the next 60-90 days,” he said. All hiring will be complete by the end of the year, the CIS executive says.
Lafevers adds, “market conditions are making a more prominent swing towards rail use for shipping needs to and from the Port of Savannah. We have cross-dock and warehousing services located within the Crisp County industrial park that have proven track records of high-quality customer service.”
