CORDELE – Members of the Main Street Downtown Revitalization Committee here approved a proposed plan of work for the 2010-2011 year this week.
The plan which was presented by Main Street Director Monica Branch includes projects that will be funded by businesses in the community who have made contributions as investment partners. Just over $2500 is available, she said.
The first element of the plan is to develop an image campaign that will promote the historic significance of downtown Cordele and encourage tourism.
Ms. Branch also proposes to continue promoting historic preservation through façade improvements and public/private partnerships. The Downtown Business Organization will raise funds, she said, so that three $500 façade grants can be awarded to property owners in the designated Main Street area.
That area extends from 5th St. west to 8th St. and from 8th Ave. south to 17th Ave.
Branch also said she will compile an “available inventory property profile” that includes square footage and contact information for owners of downtown buildings. She also will publish a “business recruitment package” with information on incentives, funding and available property for distribution to the Chamber of Commerce, local real estate offices and financial institutions.
Finally, Branch said she will establish a Georgia Heritage Education program with help from the Department of Community Affairs which provides the curriculum. The program will be presented to children in the community at the Cordele Carnegie Library.
