Cordele —
Lelee Phinney with the Gateway Center appreciates every toy and other gift that has been donated to the “adopt an angel” project this year, but the need is still great, she says.
Parents of more than 600 children in the community have asked for help. “We just don’t have nearly enough yet,” Phinney said Saturday afternoon.
She and other volunteers were at the Lions Club Fairgrounds on the back side of the building collecting toys Friday and Saturday. They will be there again Monday and Tuesday and continue to welcome contributions those two days.
“On Wednesday, I’ll begin buying gifts with the monetary donations that have been given, so no one will be at the fairgrounds,” she explained.
Parents will be picking up gifts for their children Thursday, Dec. 13 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and again Friday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They also should go around to the back side of the building at the fairgrounds.
Individuals who wish to make monetary contributions may do so at PlantersFirst Bank where a special account has been established.
