Cordele — Three people were injured Monday afternoon about 3 p.m. when their small Kia Spectra struck a tractor trailer on Hwy. 300.
Sgt. Jon Posey said the youths are from Crisp County. Their tag just had an Alabama Crimson Tide band around it.
A 14 or 15 year old passenger, identified as Will Carter was airlifted to the Macon Medical Center's trauma unit for treatment of head injuries. Also injured in the mishap were the driver, 17 year old Benjamin Richmond and his twin brother, Bradley Richmond. They were transported to Crisp Regional Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Posey said Trooper First Class Russell Taunton's report indicated that Richmond was traveling west on Old Hatley Rd. when he pulled into the southbound lane of Hwy. 300 and struck the trailer part of an 18-wheeler driven by Michael Hazelip of Bradenton, FL.
The Kia which was heavily damaged on the passenger side wound up in the median at the intersection of Hwy. 300 and Old Hatley Rd.
Emergency personnel remained on the scene for an hour or longer as they removed the victims from the vehicle and prepared them for transport to medical facilities.
Posey said the investigation is not complete, and charges are pending.
